I am a Senior in College studying Computer Science and I write NBA Articles on Rotogrinders. I provide a ton of DFS content on Twitter for free for everyone to try and help as many people as possible when it comes to learning the nuances of DFS. One of the things that I’ve been sharing to my followers is a trend that I created a few weeks ago on Fantasy Labs and since people have been asking me to explain what it is and why it’s successful, I decided to provide an explanation for anyone who is interested. I will not be showing the trend itself in this article though, you will need to follow me on Twitter to get that information.
So I don’t know if you use Fantasy Labs, but I like it and use it a lot. I use the trends tools to analyze past performances and how players have historically performed within a certain set of pregame parameters. After experimenting a little bit I came up with a set of parameters that was historically +EV (Positive expected return over time). I make my own trends for things that I’m looking for. Fantasy Labs is a database of data and the Trends tool is an Application using Queries, or searches with certain parameters. A query for example would be, show me all of the players who have been favorites in a game with projected minutes of 25 or more. Then it would show me all the players who have been favorites and projected for 25 or more mins with past results, and the players who meet those parameters for that night. I came up with a set of 5 specific parameters that a player must fit pre-game. The trends are the players who fit the exact criteria that I set, which you can view whenever I share the trends on my Twitter page. I experiment with the trends all the time to back-test certain theories I may have concerning fantasy. I ended up creating a trend that was so incredible and worked so consistently that I named it GOD and started sharing it with people. I have gotten such an amazing response from it that people are asking me what the current matches are before they even start doing their daily research.
In order to be a part of the list, a player must fit ALL of the specified criteria. Meaning that if he matches all criteria, yet is projected for 4.9 +/- and no the minimum 5, it doesn’t make him a bad play, he just won’t be on this list.
I am still developing more trends and while I know not everyone has Fantasy Labs, I have been showing a few of my trends and the current matches for my followers. I don’t share it every day because I provide a lot of different types of fantasy relevant information and take different approaches to teaching people different types of information/strategies on different days. While I don’t have enough time to write articles every day, my followers have found my other information to be beneficial to them as well. While this trend has been incredible, there is no such thing as full proof and you must account for variance, but this is as consistent as I’ve seen and you can look at my Twitter page for proof.
Over the past week of me providing the GOD trend almost daily, I have been inundated with a barrage of direct messages from people showing me their winnings and how #GODmode helped them, along with my articles. I have introduced the #GODmode into my articles and will continue to do so whenever I write them. From the pictures I’ve been sent, my followers (that I currently know of) have made over $5k in the past week, including a $2k win from one last night! (ChrisBall Shoutout).
Here is the +/- and Consistency of the GOD Trend. The number here mean that when a player is on this list and projected for an average of 25.78 FD points, 72.4% of they time they will score 5.85 points MORE than their projection. 72.4% of the time, a player on this list will have 5 MORE points than he is projected for.
*UPDATE* – Here are the past few days of the trend (2/19-2/24)
Exp Pts is Projected Points, Act Pts is Actual Points.
And here are the past few days (2/5 – 2/8) of the trend in action, showing the projected Fanduel points, next to the actual accrued Fanduel points.
I hope you have been able to become better at DFS with my help, feel free to leave comments on here or hit me up on Twitter. Good luck guys!
