Today we’re going to try and dig into this Slate and figure out which players top the charts in our “Dong Detector”. Our goal is to help you find HR hitters.
As we all know, everyone loves the long ball and in the DFS world, especially on Social Media, the MLB Long Ball is King. The HR is the key In DFS and having the player or two with a HR or two (aka Double Dong) can lead to winning lots of $$$.
The DRS Sheets RANK the PARK FACTOR 1-30. (1 being the best, 30 being the worst.)
FB% for the projected starting pitchers:
Fly ball percentage refers to the percentage of balls in play that are fly balls. A pitcher with a low fly ball percentage will normally be more successful than one with a higher percentage, since home runs are typically hit on fly balls. SIMPLE, RIGHT????
Edwin Encarnacion (CLE) 1B
After a DOUBLE DONG yesterday, I am sticking with maybe the hottest bat in MLB! I love putting Edwin Encarnacion on the Dong Detector against a Fly Ball RHP. Today, he faces RHP Dylan Bundy. Edwin Encarnacion has a massive .571 ISO over the last 14 days and 4 DONGs in the last 5 games. RHP Dylan Bundy has a slate high 47% fly ball rate and he is allowing 1.23HR/9 this season. That number increases to 1.88HR/9 v RHHs at home.
Eric Thames (MIL) 1B
Eric Thames has a massive .320 ISO and a .392 wOBA v RHP this year. Over the past 14 days, he has 5 DONGs, a .383 ISO and a 41% hard-hit%. RHP Gerritt Cole has been horrible against LHHs this season. Gerritt Cole has a 2.20 HR/9, 372 wOBA and a 41% hard hit% to LHH.
Joey Gallo (TEX) 1B
With a fly ball RHP on the mound, Joey Gallo has to be an option today at 1B. He has a .300 ISO, a 56% fly ball rate and MLB’s second highest exit velocity for fly ball at 101.3 MPH. Add in the high temperatures in Arlington tonight, Gallo makes a fine low owned play. RHP Marco Estrada has allowed a 42% fly ball rate and 1.46HR/9 to LHHs this season.
Josh Donaldson (TOR) 3B
In the same Texas heater tonight, Josh Donaldson returns to the Dong Detector. RHP Austin Biben-Dirkx has allowed a 41% hard-hit rate to RHHs. In his three starts, he’s allowing a 1.46 HR/9. In the last 11 games, Josh Donaldson has 2 DONGs, .205 ISO and a .167 WRC+ with a monstrous 57% Hard- hit%.
Ryon Healy (OAK) 1B/3B
Tonight, RHP Brad Peacock will be everyone’s boom or bust play a SP. I am suggesting to use the bats against him. And the hottest bat, over the last 2 weeks, is Ryon Healy. In that time frame, Healy has a 56% hard-hit % and a massive .436 ISO with 6 DONGs! Take note, Brad Peacock has been hit or miss so far but is only allowing a 0.23HR/9, allowing just 1 DONG all season. Healy will be a nice low owned play.
Scooter Gennett (CIN) 2B
Over his last 36 PAs, Scooter Gennett has a 40% hard-hit rate, a.486 ISO and a 201 WRC+. The major reason I love Gennett tonight is he’s profiles well against RHP Jake Odorizzi pitch types. Odorizzi’s 2nd used pitch is the Splitter (26%) and Scooter Gennett is 7x better than the MLB average. Odorizzi is allowing 1.26HR/9 to LHH this season.
Carlos Correa (HOU) SS
Paying up at SS tonight is a great option because Carlos Correa faces RHP Daniel Gossett tonight, who has allowed 2 DONGs in the 3 innings. Over the last 2 weeks, Correa has 1 DONG, a .219 ISO and a team high 40% hard-hit%. I’d expect the Astros to have few DONGs tonight off the young RHP.
Gregory Polanco (PIT) OF
Having bats in the Miller Park games can help increase your lineup’s DONG-O-METER then you sprinkle in RHP Matt Garza on the mound; YES PLEASE. Tonight, Gregory Polanco gets a major park upgrade. On the mound, RHP Matt Garza isn’t going past 5 innings anymore plus he has allowed a .362 wOBA, a 42% fly ball rate and a 36% hard contact rate to LHHs.
Lonnie Chisenhall (CLE) OF
If this game goes, you will want as many Indians bats possible against Fly ball RHP Dylan Bundy (SEE ABOVE.) Lonnie Chisenhall has been white hot. Chisenhall has a .500 ISO and a 4 DONGs in his last 10 games. Camden Yards had 16 DONGS over the weekend by both teams in similar hitting conditions.
Matt Kemp (ATL) OF
A BVP darling, Brave’s Matt Kemp has 3 DONGs and a .353 BA against RHP Johnny Cueto in 36 PAs. Over the past 2 weeks, Kemp has a .226 ISO and 38% hard-hit rate. RHP Johnny Cueto has been shaky his last few outings allowing 5 DONGs his last 16 innings! This ballpark is prime for hitters and with temps in the 80’s at game time, the balls should be flying again in SunTrust.

Good luck and stay in the green!
