Lunch time value!
Here are some players below 5K that I’m looking at.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (LAL): I love KCP’s price for the matchup he’s in tonight. He’s averaging 34 minutes per game over his last five and has shot double-digit FGA’s in four of them. He’s filling up the stat sheet and will have another chance to do so against Phoenix tonight. Devin Booker continues to be one of the worst wing defenders in the NBA. Opposing shooting guards are shooting 50% from the floor against PHX this year (second-word in the league) and 31.5 real points (fifth-worst). The pace should give KCP ample opportunity to produce.
Keep an eye on the status of Stephen Curry, who missed shootaround this morning. Quinn Cook was recalled from the G-League, which hints that Curry’s status is indeed in jeopardy tonight. Shaun Livingston becomes a chalk cash play at $3,100 if Curry doesn’t play. If you want to get cute, you could play Cook, but we know that Livingston is a solid ppm guy—minutes are always his biggest obstacle. He could play up to 25 without Curry against a Magic team that have struggled against the position.
Although the Knicks play slow, the Cleveland backcourt will have some ownership tonight. JR Smith is interesting. He’s averaged 34 minutes in November (with Derrick Rose’s absence) and has hit double figures in his last three. Minutes are the key for Smith. Although he is somewhat unpredictable and risky, his numbers across three games against the Knicks with 28-plus minutes since 2015 are intriguing: 13.6 ppg, 3 rbg, 2.3 apg; 10.3 FGA. Throw in a garbage steal or block and he is crushing at $3,200.
Iman Shumpert will draw the start and likely see heavy minutes for the third-straight game. He started the previous two games and averaged 35 minutes. He’s not a usage guy, so minutes are key for him as well. Last game he had six points, eight boards, a dime, and three steals. While you can’t bank on steals, those three alone are 3x value (Ha) on FanDuel. If Shump sees 30 minutes again he’s a candidate to go for 6x or more. JR Smith once again has more upside, as he will shoot a contested three from Pluto if he could, but both guards are definitely in play tonight.
Thabo Sefolosha might get the nod at power forward again tonight with Rudy Gobert out, and he presents an interesting matchup for Minnesota. Yeah, he had five steals during his last game against Brooklyn. However, each game Sefolosha played 20+ minutes this year, he’s hit at least 4x value in all of them. In fact, he’s crushed in three of them; posting FDP scores of 35.3, 28.6, 39.8, 25.9, and 18.4 with 20+ minutes on the court.
Dario Saric has earned a ton of burn over his last three and will carry ownership at $4,600. He’s hit double-figure scoring in all three of those games; and double-digit rebounds in two. He’s going to be hard to keep off the floor tonight.
If both Gorgui Dieng and Cole Aldrich can’t play for Minnesota tonight, look for Nemanja Bjelica to log a ton of minutes. He’s probably the best matchup for Thabo if the Jazz start him anyway. The Utah matchup isn’t great, but anyone that could see 25-30+ minutes at $3,100 is worth a look. He could be in a great spot due to lack of bodies tonight
