Below is a game by game breakdown of the QB, RB, and WR for tonight’s slate. Be warned, I will not list TE, K, and DEF.
If you have any questions feel free to hit me up @TheBondarBrand
Detroit v Indianapolis
QB: Matthew Stafford should play a series or two. Backup Jake Rudock has the #2 job locked up and will get the first half run. Rookie Brad Kaaya will have the ball most of the 2nd half. In this small slate, Rudock is an interesting play.
RB: The Lions backfield is banged up still and I don’t see Abdullah or Riddick getting any playing time. That leaves Zach Zenner, Dwayne Washington who were with the team last year and new joins, Matt Asiata and Toen Green. Zenner has produced in the past two preseasons and will be a popular name for those that played. Washington is involved in KR/PR duties so pairing him Detroit Defense is wise, if he can take one to the house.
WR: The normal one or two series for Golden Tate and Marvin Jones with Stafford could be productive and in a 2-game slate might be worth a chance. The rookie, Kenny “MINI-MEGATRON” Golladay is the guy you want in this corps. He’s been a training camp monster and he’s going to be highly targeted inside the redzone. From there its T.J. Jones, Jace Billingsley and Jared Abbrederis competing for the #4 WR role.
RB: Can’t see 34-year-old Frank Gore getting much run. Veteran Robert Turbin should run with the first teamers and get a few series. Rookie Marlon Mack is getting praise from Coach Pagano, problem is he’s too high on the depth chart. Last year Josh Ferguson was the Twitter hype machine, but he’s faded some. Take a shot on Mack and hope he can get some carries versus a weak Lions defense.
WR: The Colts might want T.Y. Hilton out there a few times with Tolzien in case Luck is done awhile. After that the WRs get dicey. Dorsett is hurt, won’t play. Chester Rogers will get a few series. Vet Kamar Aiken and Quan Bray should see most of the first half snaps. The guy I am excited for is rookie BUG HOWARD…. yes, Bug Howard.
Seattle v Los Angeles Chargers
QB: Dak Prescott wasn’t the only rookie QB last year winning folks $, Trevone Boykin was lighting it up. This season however, he’s fighting for the #2 job with Austin Davis. Boykin has the ability to make plays but he’s up against a Chargers first and second team defense. I prefer Austin Davis if you haven’t picked a QB from the 1st game.
RB: Skinny Eddie Lacy will get the chance to compete with Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise for the starting job the rest of camp. The two backs, I love though are Alex Collins and Chris Carson. Both will get the ball most of the second half.
WR: Seattle has a ton of WRs competing for a roster spot. Kearse and Richardson will bump up to starters this game. Amara Darboh, Kenny Lawler and Kasen Williams are “hope I get a TD or 3 Rec “options.
QB: Rivers should get a play or two. Backups Kellen Clemens and Cardale Jones are fighting for the #2 spot. Cardale Jones knows the OC and the offense. Another 4QB teams with Mike Bercovici. If Rivers sits, you could look at Jones or Bercovici has a “shit I forgot to play a QB “play.
RB: No Gordon. Oliver will start and then Kenjon Barner. Barner might be the PR/KR too so pairing him with the Def is a good idea. Andre Williams is on this team somehow and might be the guy that runs the clock out at the end of game.
WR: The often IR WR Keenan Allen, rookie Mike Williams, Dontrelle Inman, Geremy Davis are out. A few more are banged up too. I don’t know if you can find a WR here. Keep looking on sites for a sleeper.
I hope you enjoyed the write-up and best of luck tonight!
