The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Kassim Kamani (@Kamani31) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favorite plays in three different pricing tiers; High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles. I will be looking at the DraftKings plays and Kassim will be our Fanduel expert. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you all win some money. So without further ado, let’s get The Triple Deke started!
High Dollar Plays
C – Sidney Crosby PIT ($8,200 DK)
The greatest of players always show up in the big games. Washington vs Pittsburgh has been a rivalry for the top of the Eastern Conference for quite some time now and Crosby has always produced well against them. Even with facing such a great team, Crosby has recorded 60 points in 41 career games against the Capitals. In those 41 games he has also averaged 3.6 shots on net as well. He has a fantastic floor tomorrow with a decent ceiling as well. At $8.2K salary, and with the matchup against a great team, I can see people fading Crosby for other top tier options. He makes more of a GPP option in my book, but I would also ponder putting him in cash lines as well.
C – David Krejci BOS ($6,300 DK)
On Monday afternoon the Boston Bruins were embarrassed at home, losing 4-0 to a weak Colorado team that posted historically bad numbers last season and didn’t change their roster much. The Bruins will look for revenge tonight as they finish up a home and home with the Avalanche. Krejci won’t provide you with a solid enough floor that I would be rostering him in cash lineups at his price, but he definitely can provide a multi-point effort any night. Krejci centers the 2nd forward line and will most likely avoid the top Colorado defenders as they will be focusing on the Bruins top line. Krejci also sees time on the top power play unit for Boston. Playing against a weak team in a revenge game because they were just shut out at home, I see Boston lighting up the lamp numerous times.
Mid Dollar Plays
W – William Nylander TOR ($5,900 DK)
It’s no surprise that the Maple Leafs are one of the fastest teams when it comes to game flow and offensive production. They are a young team with loads of talent and an incredible depth of scoring. Tonight they face off against New Jersey, who historically have been known to be a “shut the game down” defensive team that loved those 2-1 games. But they have turned the page and are now a faster paced team as well. This game will not be short of goals, and with Nylander on the top line, top powerplay unit, and not afraid to fire the puck on net, $5.9K is pretty much a steal.
D – Drew Doughty LA ($5,200 DK)
Doughty has started off the season the way he has his entire career. He is able to fill up the stat sheet in multiple categories which in terms of DFS, means he is always on the radar. Doughty has registered 6 blocked shots and 7 shots on net in his first two games, but has remained off of the scoresheet. The LA defenseman finished last season with 44 points and quarterbacks the top powerplay unit of the Kings. With a new coach in LA who has a play style of sending the puck to the net and crashing players in, we should see Doughty’s production overall increase this year over last. Calgary has always struggled playing in California and the Kings should easily be able to keep control of the game.
Low Dollar Plays
D – Francois Beauchemin ANA ($3,200 DK)
Beauchemin is a solid punt play for your cash lineups. At just $3.2K, if he is able to provide any amount of points greater than 1.0 that would be acceptable. Through three games this season, Beauchemin has averaged 2.2 points/game with his floor being 1.5. He is able to produce in both shots on goal and blocked shots so he is not limited to one category. Tonight he faces an Islanders team that is currently averaging 35 shots/game, giving Beauchemin plenty of opportunity to block shots. He sees time on the second powerplay unit which is a nice little bonus.
C – Nico Hischier NJ ($4,300 DK)
I’ve said it earlier in this article, and it’s been mentioned in The Triple Deke almost every night Toronto plays; but Toronto games are always high scoring affairs. Hischier was just drafted 1st overall in the NHL Draft this summer and is the current 2nd line center and top powerplay unit center for a new look New Jersey team. In a game that will see no shortage of goals, Hischier has the talent to skate around many veteran players at his young age. At just $4.3K he provides an excellent value play for GPPs.
G – Cory Schneider NJ ($6,900 DK)
This is a GPP play only! Schneider had a down season in 2016-17, but if his first two games are any indication, he is back to his old self and will be found near the top of the league in save percentage. This is one of those situations where it is a fast and dangerous offensive team against an elite goaltender. Who will win? At $6.9K Schneider will probably never see his salary this low again all season. With the majority of players flocking to the Toronto skaters, placing the opposing goalie (who is elite) in net is worth a shot.
