The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Kassim Kamani (@Kamani31) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favorite plays in three different pricing tiers; High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles. I will be looking at the DraftKings plays and Kassim will be our Fanduel expert. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you all win some money. So without further ado, let’s get The Triple Deke started!
High Dollar Plays
W – Jakub Voracek PHI ($7,000 DK)
Voracek and the Flyers have the luxury of squaring off against a winless Arizona team tonight. Arizona has been dismal all around and opposing top lines are feasting on them when they welcome them to their building. Voracek is currently on a three game streak where he has produced multiple points. It is not uncommon for Voracek to get 5-6-7 shots in a game and with that amount of fire power pucks will squeak through. His 5.6% shooting on the season is well below average, but we’ve seen in years past what he is capable of. There’s no better way to turn his low percentage around than against a weak Coyotes team.
C – John Tavares NYI ($7,000 DK)
Vegas is on their third string goaltender and are still an unbelievable 8-1 on the season. That will change soon, as Vegas had the joy of an early season seven game home stand. In their two away games this season they crawled to an overtime win against a now 0-11 Coyotes team, and another 2-1 win over a decent Dallas team in the season opener. We’ll attribute that win to first game in franchise history adrenaline. But tonight they face the Islanders who are red hot on home ice averaging close to five goals a game. Tavares has seven points in his last two home games, and 10 points in his previous four games overall. His DK salary through all of this has gone relatively unchanged. With everyone high on Vegas, this sets up to be a perfect let down game.
Mid Dollar Plays
W – Mark Stone OTT ($5,600 DK)
Stone has quietly been putting up a tremendous start to the season. Averaging over a point per game, he’s being overshadowed by the stories of Kucherov and Stamkos in Tampa. Tonight Stone faces a Montreal team that is in shambles defensively and their world class goalie is not doing any better. The Canadiens have allowed opposing teams to register 4+ goals in 64% of their games this season, while Ottawa has scored 4+ goals in 64% of their games. In a game that I expect to be high scoring for the Senators, Stone should be leading the Ottawa offense once again at a low price.
D – Seth Jones CLS ($5,100 DK)
Seth Jones can do it all. He’s able to score, provide excellent passes to teammates for goals, generate shots, and generate blocked shots as well. Better yet, Jones has been seeing around 25 minutes of ice time per game, sometimes eclipsing the 28-minute mark. Jones was drafted 4th overall in the 2013 draft and has finally turned into the player everyone expected him to be. With his skill set, his multi-category production, and the amount of time he is seeing daily, Jones is a worthwhile pick for cash and GPP formats.
Low Dollar Plays
D – Dion Phaneuf OTT ($4,200 DK)
Speaking of defenseman who are able to produce across multiple categories, Phaneuf has done just that. And like his teammate Stone, Phaneuf has gone well under the radar this season. Currently on a four game point streak, Phaneuf sees just over 20 minutes per game of ice time and sees time on the second powerplay unit of Ottawa. As mentioned before, tonight the Senators are squaring off against a defense in disarray and who are allowing the 9th most fantasy points to defenseman this season. He is a GPP play only in my opinion. His salary is just a little too high for me to be a cash game selection.
W – Joonis Donskoi SJ ($3,500 DK)
Anytime you get to skate on the same line as Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, you are in consideration for lineups regardless of who you are. Donskoi slid up to the top line of SJ and has been doing well lately registering a goal in two of his past three games, and three of his past five. He does not provide you with much opportunity as he will only gather around 13-14 minutes of ice time a game, but with one goal or assist he is able to come near full value.
G – Jaroslav Halak NYI ($7,200 DK)
I was shocked at how far I had to scroll down to find Halak in salary. I don’t trust Vegas’ 8-1-0 record for one bit and I don’t think many “experts” do either. Looking at their roster from top to bottom it’s a miracle they are this good. We will all find out how good they really are though as they head on the road finally to face a team that is cruising on home ice. The Islanders are quite a large favorite tonight so seeing Halak this low was shocking. He makes for a great GPP play that you can stack some top end talent with. I’d even feel comfortable playing him in cash for his price.
