The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Kassim Kamani (@Kamani31) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favorite plays in three different pricing tiers; High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles. I will be looking at the DraftKings plays and Kassim will be our Fanduel expert. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you all win some money. So without further ado, let’s get The Triple Deke started!
High Dollar Plays
C – Patrice Bergeron BOS ($6,900 DK)
Bergeron faces off against a Vegas team that has struggled containing opposing top line players in the first two games of their road trip. It certainly does not help that Vegas is currently on their 4th string goaltender and are looking for anyone with pads to suit up for them at this point. In the first two games of their east coast trip, the opposing top line forwards have combined for five goals and eight assists. A Boston line 1 stack will be pricey, but it can certainly pay off. Bergeron is averaging over four shots on net per game this season and just over a point per game. He provides an excellent floor for cash games and multi-point upside for GPPs.
W – Vladimir Tarasenko STL ($7,400 DK)
St. Louis has been dominant at home this season winning every game by two or more goals, scoring at least four in every one, and leading the way has been Tarasenko. In five home games this season, he has registered seven points and 17 shots on net for a 5.4 DK points/game average. With Brian Elliott in net last night for the Flyers, St. Louis will most likely be facing their backup and a Philadelphia team on a back-to-back with travel. He will see reduced ownership tonight as those who are willing to pay up at wing will go for Kucherov, Ovechkin, and Marchand.
Mid Dollar Plays
D – Drew Doughty LAK ($5,500 DK)
Doughty sees a great matchup tonight against a Leafs team allowing the most fantasy points in the league to opposing defensemen. Doughty has also seen his price drop $800 from where it was just a week ago. It’s not as if he has stopped producing in those four games though. He has averaged 3.4 DK points/game in them, and 5.2 DK points/game on the season. With such a large slate and a late west coast start time, Doughty should see reduced ownership overall and can make for a great GPP play. With his lowered price, placing him in cash lineups will work too.
W – Nick Foligno CLS ($5,600 DK)
Believe it or not, the Florida Panthers have played in the highest scoring games on average this season. Florida has also allowed the most shots on net per game in the entire league. Foligno has been kept off the scoresheet in the past three games, but he is still firing the puck on net enough for him to be a solid fantasy play. He ranks third in goals and points on the season for Columbus, and has the second most shots on net in the past five games for them. Florida and their inability to stop shots is a dream scenario for Foligno to break out of his mini-drought from the scoresheet. I feel comfortable playing him in cash games as well as GPP.
Low Dollar Plays
D – Marco Scandella BUF ($3,200 DK)
Since the last time Scandella and the Sabres played a game, their opponent, Arizona, has competed in three of them. With fresh legs, I would expect Buffalo to come out trying to turn around a disappointing start to the season. Scandella has started to gain more offensive zone time and has 16 shots on net in his past five games compared to just the seven shots he took in his first five. He is keeping a constant in blocked shots and has added two assists in his previous five as well. His powerplay minutes are key as they face the worst penalty kill team in the league.
W – Mikko Rantanen COL ($4,300 DK)
This will be one of the lowest owned games on the entire slate. It’s an awkward 9pm start time in a large slate, featuring two small market teams with minimal star talent. But I expect this game to be one of the higher scoring ones making it a great GPP play. In five home games this season, Colorado has scored 4.8 goals/game including five or more goals in three of them. Rantanen skates on the top line of Colorado and sees time on the top powerplay unit as well. He recorded three points in his last game and has a point in six of his last nine games overall. The scoring has to come from someone in this game, and a $4.3K top liner who can create scoring chances is a great start.
G – Craig Anderson OTT ($7,600 DK)
After his last performance where he got burned for six goals on 15 shots, I would assume everyone is going to write Anderson off their list immediately. And that’s why I’m turning to him for some GPP help. Anderson faces the Red Wings tonight who he kept to just one goal on 30 shots earlier in the season. The Detroit offense is nothing special and Anderson has shown for a long time now what he is capable of. Bonus points for the win will certainly be in play for Anderson tonight as he looks to rebound off a career worst start.
