The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftking plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
C: Tyler Seguin ($8100 FD)
Dallas has not started the season the way that most people had thought they would. They have started the season winless and have only scored 3 goals in the process. Despite the low goals so far, it has not been for a lack of effort. In their first game they put up 45 shots but were just unable to beat Fleury, in the second game they put 38 shots against a very good defensive team in St.Louis but were once again stopped by a very good goalie in Allen. Leading the way in shots is Tyler Seguin who has 19 in 2 games. Dallas is playing at home and I expect a breakout game for them against Detroit. I suspect the Stars will be under owned today and I like Seguin in both GPP and Cash games.
W: Patrick Kane ($8700 FD)
Fresh off a loss to the Maple Leafs where Kane only had 1 sog, the Blackhawks travel to Montreal to face Carey Price and the Canadiens. This is the home opener for Montreal and you know that building is going to be rocking in this original 6 matchup. I am going against the grain here with Kane, but I just don’t see him having back to back games without a point. Kane to date has 6 points and 9 shots on goal and I expect him to step up for this game against Montreal. Normally Kane is usable in all formats, but for this slate considering his opponent I like him as a GPP play.
Mid Dollar Plays
W: Viktor Arvidsson ($6000 FD)
Nashville is back home after starting 0-2 on the road with losses to Boston and Pittsburgh where they didn’t look very good. If we have learned anything about the Predators is its to play them at home where they are a very dominant team. Nashville is having their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers who are on their final game of their 4 game road trip to start the season. Arvidsson has become the top goal scorer for the Predators as he plays alongside Forsberg and Johansen on the top line. He has 2 points so far on the season and 8 shots on the year and I really like Arvidsson to get a goal or 2 in this game. I think Arvidsson is a solid GPP play but can also be used in Cash.
D: Kevin Shattenkirk ($5900 FD)
The Rangers face off against the St.Louis Blues and their back goalie Carter Hutton in a home matchup. After a couple of tough losses, the Rangers had a nice victory against the Montreal Canadiens at home. Shattenkirk so far has 3 points in 3 games which have all come on the powerplay. Going against St.Louis who is on a back to back could be taking some extra penalties as they will have some tired legs and this time won’t have Allen to back them up. The Blues are giving up a lot of shots per game, and I like Shattenkirk to get a few shots and maybe even a multi point game in this one. You can use him in both GPP and Cash.
Low Dollar Plays
D: Noah Hanifin ($3900 FD)
I suggested Hanifin in a previous article and I am going right back to the well with him for this slate. Carolina is one of the teams that have expectations on them to be one of the most improved teams of the year. In their first game of the season, Carolina had a roller coaster game where they had a lead, then blew it in the last second, but then won it in overtime. I think Carolina will have lots of exciting games like that, and it will continue against the Bluejackets. Hanifin had a ppg and 5 shots on goals and I really expect him to take a big step offensively this year. He plays on the second powerplay unit with some really talented players and I expect him to notch another point today. For this game, Hanifin is a GPP play only.
F: Alex Burrows ($3400 FD)
First and foremost this is slightly a homer pick as Burrows is coming back to Vancouver to play against my Canucks and the team where he has spent almost his entire career. That being said, Burrows is a guy that steps up in big games, and this is going to be a very emotional game for him. He plays on the 4th line, however jumps up to the first powerplay unit and I can really see him scoring a powerplay goal this game. I fully expect Ottawa to give Burrows some extra play in this game, and he makes for a nice GPP punt.
G: Pekka Rinne ($8200 FD)
As mentioned earlier, if we have learned anything about the Predators its to play them at home. The same holds true for the Pekka Rinne as he displays much better statistics at home than he does on the road. Last year Rinne had a record of 21-6-5 at home with a 2.23 gaa and .920 save % compared to a 10-13-4 record on the road with a 2.66 gaa and .916 save %. Considering that its the Predators home opener and they are up against the Flyers who are playing their final road game of a 4 game trip, I like Rinne and the Predators to get their first win of the season.
About the Author:
I live in Vancouver, Canada and as a profession I work in the Hospital as an x-ray technologist. I have been a rabid sports fanatic since I can remember. When I was growing up, my favourite sports teams were at their peaks; Cowboys were winning Superbowls, the Pacers were breaking the hearts of Knicks fans, Bluejays were winning World Series, and the Canucks were a post away from Messier not raising another cup. The sports life was good. Slowly but surely however, my sports teams’ successes started to diminish. Thats when I turned to season long fantasy sports, to add a little excitement to my sports life and have been playing that format ever since. Eventually, I became a victim of all the advertisement and tried my hand at DFS. I currently play NHL and NFL DFS, and am starting to try my hand at PGA
