The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftking plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Nikita Kucherov ($8300 FD)
The last time Antti Niemi suited up for the Penguins on the road against a good offense on the back end of a back to back he let in 4 goals on 13 shots in less than 10 minutes of game time. Well Niemi is finding himself in the same situation and this time Tampa Bay gets the honour of facing him. One of Tampa’s top offensive players is Nikita Kucherov who so far on the year has 5 points in 3 games. Over the course of his career Kucherov has been a point a game player against Pittsburgh. I really like him to score in this game and to potentially come up with a multi-point performance. I like him in GPP and cash games.
D: Brent Burns ($7400 FD)
It has not been an ideal start to the season for Burns as he has tallied 1 A in 2 games and is a -5 so far on the year. I think he is going to start to get his season on track today against the Buffalo Sabres who have given up the second most goals against per game. Last season the Sharks were a great home team and even though they lost some talent they still have the ability to score in bunches. Burns quarterbacks the Sharks top powerplay which is loaded with offensive talent. I like Burns as a GPP option tomorrow.
Mid Dollar Plays
C: Bryan Little ($5400 FD)
Little comes into this game against the Vancouver Canucks with only 1 point in 3 games. So far into the season the Jets have been a really good offensive team and the fact that Little only has 1 point is a little surprising. The Canucks have done some pretty strict line matching to start the season at home and have deployed a checking line to stop the opponent’s top line and have been pretty successful. For this reason, I like Winnipeg’s second line in this game which is centered by Little. He will be playing alongside Patrick Laine and I like both these guys to have a big game today. Little is more of a GPP play for me but can be used in cash as well.
W: Jaden Schwartz ($5600 FD)
Schwartz has started off the season really well as he has 7 points in 4 games. One thing I like to do with teams playing on the road is target second line as they usually are able to avoid the opponents top checking lines. Schwartz plays on the second line with Schenn and Barbashev and has really developed some nice chemistry together. Schwartz also moves up to the top pp unit for the Blues and gets to play alongside the like of Tarasenko and Pietrangelo. The Blues are up against the Panthers in this game, and I like for them to score a few goals this game and I think Schwartz will be a part of the scoring. I like him for both GPP and Cash games.
Low Dollar Plays
W: Bryan Rust ($4200 FD)
Bryan Rust and the Penguins are travelling to Tampa to play the Lightning to complete a back to back set of games. Rust for the last couple of games has played alongside Sidney Crosby and in those games has produced 3 assists. Now this play has more to do with Crosby than anything else as in his career Crosby has 47 points in 34 points against the Lightning. What’s interesting is that of those 47 points only 7 have come on the powerplay meaning there is going to be some 5 on 5 scoring here. I like Rust to be a beneficiary of this and he allows for some real nice exposure to Crosby at a very cheap price. I like Rust as a GPP play today.
D: Cody Franson ($3500 FD)
Franson has only played 1 game so far for Chicago but it was a successful one as he was able to produce an assist and also took 2 shots on net and also blocked 2 shots. Franson plays on the second defensive pairing and also the second powerplay unit. Chicago is up against the Minnesota Wild who are a little banged up right now and are a team that is not as strong on the road compared to at home. They have given up 8 goals already and have struggled on the PK to start. Franson is a good GPP play but for his price can make an argument for him to be used in cash as it won’t take much for him to reach value.
Jimmy Howard ($7900 FD)
Jimmy Howard and the Redwings travel to Arizona to face the Coyotes. Before the season started I thought that Arizona was going to be an improved team and one that will be fairly competitive. However, to start the year they have looked really bad. They have struggled to score this year even though they have managed to put up 30 shots a game. I like Howard going into this game as he should be facing a decent amount of shots but is not in danger of giving up too many goals. Howard last season was somewhat surprisingly 3rd in goals against and 2nd in save percentage, and I think makes for a really good play today. The only issue is that Detroit is not that strong of a team, so a win might not be a lock. For this reason I like Howard as a GPP option but can be used in cash if you feel confident enough with Detroit winning.
About the Author:
I live in Vancouver, Canada and as a profession I work in the Hospital as an x-ray technologist. I have been a rabid sports fanatic since I can remember. When I was growing up, my favourite sports teams were at their peaks; Cowboys were winning Superbowls, the Pacers were breaking the hearts of Knicks fans, Bluejays were winning World Series, and the Canucks were a post away from Messier not raising another cup. The sports life was good. Slowly but surely however, my sports teams’ successes started to diminish. Thats when I turned to season long fantasy sports, to add a little excitement to my sports life and have been playing that format ever since. Eventually, I became a victim of all the advertisement and tried my hand at DFS. I currently play NHL and NFL DFS, and am starting to try my hand at PGA
