The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftking plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Johnny Gaudreau ($7500 FD)
So far the flames have played 4 games with 3 of them being on the road and 1 at home. The one home game that the Flames had they were able to score 6 goals and Gaudreau was apart of 4 of them. Granted that game was against the Winnipeg Jets who are not the sharpest defensive team, I still believe that the Flames are a very good home team. With the Backlund line dealing with the other teams top line, Gaudreau and company are free to play against weaker competition. I like Gaudreau in both GPP and Cash.
W: James Neal ($7100 FD)
The surprising Vegas Golden Knights are 3-0 on the season in large part to Fleury’s goaltending and to Neal’s goal scoring. Today they get to face off against the Detroit Red Wings who are going to be on the second game of a back-to-back and will be playing their backup Petr Mrazek. Detroit despite not giving up many goals have given up a lot of shots on net, and I can see Vegas being able to take advantage with Mrazek in net. Neal on the season has 5 goals and 11 shots on goal in just 3 games and has a chance to add to his total in this game and is worth a look in GPPs.
Mid Dollar Plays
C: Rikard Rakell ($6500 FD)
The Colorado Avalanche are coming off back to back wins against the Boston Bruins and dare I say have looked pretty good this year. Well I for one am not convinced yet and I think today against the Anaheim Ducks they will come back down to earth. The Colorado Avalanche are starting Jonathan Bernier today in net and in his previous game he let in 4 goals. Rakell centers the second line playing alongside Silfverberg and Cogliano and I like that line to have a nice showing today. Rakell also jumps to the top powerplay unit and is a weak spot for the avalanche as they have given up the most powerplay goals against in the league. An Anaheim powerplay stack today might be a nice play. Use Rakell in your GPP and cash lines.
D: Zach Werenski ($5400 FD)
The Columbus Blue Jackets are back home and facing off against the New York Rangers. So far on the year the Rangers have looked really bad defensively, and aside from the Montreal game (which is a team that is going to struggle to score), they have given up at least 3 goals a game. Lundqvist does not look like the Lundqvist of old and I really like Columbus to put up a few goals today. I am going to be targeting that Columbus powerplay and I am going to start with Werenski on the back end as he quarterbacks the powerplay. You can use Werenski in both GPP and Cash games.
Low Dollar Plays
D: Will Butcher ($4300 FD)
The New Jersey Devils have been one of the surprise teams this year and it’s not just because of their 3-0 record its how they have achieved it. The Devils have looked really good offensively as they are averaging over 5 goals a game so far. They have a really nice group of young forwards mixed with some good veterans and they are using their speed to their advantage. Will Butcher is one of those young players and he has looked really good as an offensive defenseman this year. He plays on the third pairing so you he will be avoiding tough defensive matchups and he also plays on the first powerplay unit which has been on fire for the Devils to start the season. Washington is a tough matchup, so I like Butcher in GPP only today.
W: Sven Andrighetto ($3700 FD)
Even though I think Colorado is not as good as they have looked this year it doesn’t mean that they will not be able to score today. Colorado is facing off against Anaheim today and even though they are getting healthier they are still pretty beat up on the back end. Andrighetto plays on the top line with Mackinnon and Rantanen and also on the first powerplay unit. Since Colorado is at home, they should be able to dictate a favourable matchup. Since Andrighetto is not a big shooter of the puck this is a GPP play only today.
G: Mike Smith ($8200 FD)
The Calgary Flames to start the year have given up a whopping 40.3 shots on goal per game, which is tops in the NHL. Mike Smith though has been up to the task as he has a 2.0 gaa and a .950 save %. Their opponent today is the Ottawa Senators who have been taking a lot of shots but have not been able to capitalize as they have only been able to score 2.33 goals per game. What this tells me is that Mike Smith should be facing a lot of shots tonight and with one of the best top 4 d in front of him should be able to minimize the goals. I like Smith in Cash games today due to the volume, but can also be used in GPPs.

I live in Vancouver, Canada and as a profession I work in the Hospital as an x-ray technologist. I have been a rabid sports fanatic since I can remember. When I was growing up, my favourite sports teams were at their peaks; Cowboys were winning Superbowls, the Pacers were breaking the hearts of Knicks fans, Bluejays were winning World Series, and the Canucks were a post away from Messier not raising another cup. The sports life was good. Slowly but surely however, my sports teams’ successes started to diminish. Thats when I turned to season long fantasy sports, to add a little excitement to my sports life and have been playing that format ever since. Eventually, I became a victim of all the advertisement and tried my hand at DFS. I currently play NHL and NFL DFS, and am starting to try my hand at PGA
