The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftking plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
F- David Pastrnak ($7300 FD)
Boston is up against the Colorado Avalanche in todays early slate. Colorado in their first game of the season shockingly beat the Rangers 4-1, but quickly came back down to earth with a 4-1 loss to the Devils in their next game. One thing that has stood out already for the Avalanche is their dreadful Penalty Kill, which is only killing 50% of their penalty kills (5/10). Insert Boston’s top powerplay unit which includes David Pastrnak. Last season Pastrnak has 24 points on the powerplay and I like for him to continue to show his Powerplay dominance today. Load him up in cash and GPPs.
F- Vladimir Tarasenko ($7500 FD)
In such a short slate, all the high dollar players will be highly owned, and its very possible that Tarasenko will be the highest owned. That being said I still really like him today, the Islanders so far have given up an average of 4 goals a game and the Blues have scored 4.5 goals a game. I realize this is a small sample size, but for this particular game I think it will hold true. Tarasenko is the offensive leader for this team and so far he has 2 points in 2 games. I expect a multi point game out of him this time around. He is usable in all formats.
Mid Dollar Plays
F: Evander Kane ($5400 FD)
So far this season in two games Kane has recorded a total of 19 shots!! It appears that Kane is going to be a shot happy player this year, and because of this he is a Cash game staple. Kane plays on the first line alongside Jack Eichel and also is on the first powerplay unit. Even if Kane doesn’t get any points, the amount of shots that he takes will make up his salary. He probably won’t be this cheap in the near future so take advantage while you can.
D: Torey Krug ($5400 FD)
Before you plug him into your lineups make sure that Krug is actually going to suit up tomorrow as he is a game time decision. That being said, he is expected to play and if he does he is in a great spot. Krug will line up on the first powerplay unit where he had 25 of his 51 points last year. Once again, Colorado has a terrible penalty kill so its a really good chance for Krug to get his season off on the right foot. Krug has a safe floor as he also takes a lot of shots on goal. Last season he finished with 208 shots on goal good for 8th amongst defensemen. I like Krug as a GPP play as many might not be on him due to him being injured the first few games.
Note: If Krug does not play, use Alex Pietrangelo ($5600 FD)
Low Dollar Plays
C: Nico Hischier ($4900 FD)
The first overall pick is going up against the Buffalo Sabres today and is going to be looking to get his first point of his career. In his first game of the season, Hischier had 6 shots on goals and was robbed of his first goal of the season. I like him against Buffalo today as they are starting to play a very high uptempo style of game which will afford lots of chances for Hischer in counter attacks. He plays on the second line with Johansson and Stafford, as well as the first powerplay unit. I think he is going to collect his first point of the season and makes for a great GPP play.
D: Carl Gunnarsson ($3500 FD)
Gunnarsson is not a big time scorer however so far this year he has a goal and an assist and he has already blocked 9 shots. At his price, Gunnarson doesn’t need to do much to reach his value, and since he is going up against the Islanders, there should be plenty of opportunities to block shots as they are a good offensive team. Because of the injury to Bouwmeester he is currently playing on the second defensive unit with Colton Parayko so he will also be seeing a lot of ice time. He is a GPP play only and will give your lineup a lot of flexibility.
Jake Allen ($8600 FD)
Allen is not the safest play in goal today, as that honour belongs to Tukka Rask. However I think that Allen has a chance to rake up more points as his opponent will be better at generating shots. The Islanders have a good offence but I still think that Allen and the Blues will win this game. For this slate, I think Allen is a GPP play, and should see a little bit of a lower ownership than usual as most people will be going towards Tukka Rask.

I live in Vancouver, Canada and as a profession I work in the Hospital as an x-ray technologist. I have been a rabid sports fanatic since I can remember. When I was growing up, my favourite sports teams were at their peaks; Cowboys were winning Superbowls, the Pacers were breaking the hearts of Knicks fans, Bluejays were winning World Series, and the Canucks were a post away from Messier not raising another cup. The sports life was good. Slowly but surely however, my sports teams’ successes started to diminish. Thats when I turned to season long fantasy sports, to add a little excitement to my sports life and have been playing that format ever since. Eventually, I became a victim of all the advertisement and tried my hand at DFS. I currently play NHL and NFL DFS, and am starting to try my hand at PGA
