The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Nikita Kucherov – Tampa Bay Lightning ($9200 FD)
I normally hate to write up a super expensive chalk player in this article; however the matchup for Kucherov and the Lightning is just too good. Tampa Bay is on the road today to face off against Mike Condon and the Ottawa Senators. Condon has given up at least 3 goals in 5 of his last 6 games including 2 games where he has given up 5. Ottawa is coming off a thrilling 6-5 win last night but this will be a back to back for them. Kucherov has continued to keep rolling this season as he has a point in 15 of his last 17 games including 8 multi point games. He is in a good spot today and you will want some exposure to him despite the high ownership.
C: Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche ($7900 FD)
I mentioned this in a recent article, but MacKinnon at home is one of the best players in the league. He has been absolutely dominant at home where he has 37 points in 22 home games. He has points in 12 of his last 14 home games and he is shooting the puck a ton as well. His opponent today is the Minnesota Wild who will have Dubnyk in net today. Since his return, Dubnyk has been really good; however all of his games have been at home where the Wild have been dominant. On the road this year however, Dubnyk has allowed one full goal more per game. In fact, Minnesota as a team gives up the third most road goals per game in the league. This is a really good spot for MacKinnon and I will be using him in both cash and GPP lines.
Mid Dollar Plays
C: Mika Zibanejad – New York Rangers ($6200 FD)
Since returning back from his injury, Zibanejad has struggled to find the score sheet. That being said, he was able to break out of his slump last game by scoring a goal and recording 5 shots on goal. Today he gets to face off against the Arizona Coyotes who have given up an average of more than 4 goals a game in their last 5. The Coyotes give up the second most goals per game in the league and their PK has also started to tumble in the last couple of weeks. Prior to his injury, Zibanejad was playing very well, so hopefully he is on the road to regaining that form and can build upon his goal from last game. I will be using him in GPPs only today.
W: Patrick Marleau – Toronto Maple Leafs ($5600 FD)
Toronto is at home today to face off against the Vancouver Canucks. Marleau has been a nice addition to the Leafs as he has 24 points in 42 games this year. Patrick Marleau throughout his career with the Sharks really enjoyed playing against the Canucks. Today he will be playing on a line with Kadri and Komarov and will most likely be matching up against Brock Boeser’s line. Although, Boeser and company have been scoring they have not been great defensively and I think we will see Marleau get on the score sheet today. Marleau will be a GPP play only today.
Low Dollar Plays
D: Alex Goligoski – Arizona Coyotes ($4200 FD)
Even with all the struggles the Coyotes have had this season, one of the bright spots for them lately has been Alex Goligoski. He has points in 6 of his last 7 games including 4 powerplay points. He is seeing over 20 minutes a game which builds up his chances to accumulate peripheral stats. Today he is facing off against the New York Rangers who give up over 3 goals a game on the road. Goligoski has been point dependant lately so he may be a better GPP play today, however for his price you could potentially use him in Cash.
D: Alexander Edler – Vancouver Canucks ($4800 FD)
The Vancouver Canucks are on the road today to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Edler has had a nice stretch of games here where he has had 13 shots and 13 blocked shots in his last 3 games. Edler consistently plays over 20 minutes a night, is on the top PP unit and his opponent give up the third most FP to defenders. Toronto has also struggled to keep the puck out of their net lately which puts Edler in even a better position. I like Edler in both cash and GPP contests today.
G: Pekka Rinne – Nashville Predators ($8300 FD)
Rinne and the Nashville Predators are on the road today to face off against the LA Kings. Rinne has been very good on the road this year as he has posted a 1.87 GAA and a .943 Save % in his road games. He has only given up more than 2 goals once in his last 6 road games. He has recorded 2 shutouts in those 6 games and 4 wins. He has a tough matchup today against the Kings however the Kings are not a very high scoring team at home and I think that this will be a low scoring game that Nashville could sneak out of with a win. I will be using Rinne in GPP contests and potentially in Cash lines as well.
