The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Johnny Gaudreau – Calgary Flames ($7800 FD)
Prior to his 3 game pointless streak, Gaudreau was one of if not the hottest player in the league. Last game he snapped out of his scoring drought and contributed with a goal and an assist. Today the Flames get to face off against the Philadelphia Flyers who have gone 10 games without a win. Over their last 6 games the Flyers have given up over 4 goals a game on average. Calgary can score in bunches and with Gaudreau finding the score sheet again I like for him to continue to his production tonight against the Flyers. I will be using him in both GPP and Cash games today, however he will be coming with high ownership tonight.
W: Claude Giroux – Philadelphia Flyers ($7400 FD)
Im going right back to the Cgy/Philly game and going to be rostering Claude Giroux. Even though the Flyers have been losing, Giroux has still been producing. Prior to last game, Giroux was on a nice 5 game point streak which included 2 multi point games. Today they get to face the Flames who are right up there with Philadelphia in goals against over the last couple of weeks. Mike Smith will be manning the goal for the Flames and he has given up 13 goals over his last 4 games. I think this game has a big potential to be a high scoring one so I will be rostering players from both sides.
Mid Dollar Plays
D: Nick Leddy – New York Islanders ($5600 FD)
Nick Leddy has been an absolute beast this season and his price is not reflecting it. Leddy is second in the league in points amongst defensemen and is no where near being one of the highest price Dmen. In todays slate alone he is the 4th highest D man on the board and makes for a great play today. Unfortunately with the small amount of games he is going to be highly owned, but he still makes for a great play. Today he and the Islanders are facing off against the Florida Panthers in what could potentially be another high scoring game. The Panthers give up the 4th most points per game and the Islanders are the highest scoring team in the league. Leddy is a perfect stack with the Islanders top line today.
C: Logan Couture – San Jose Sharks ($6700 FD)
Logan Couture is in Washington today to face off against the Capitals. The Capitals will have Philipp Grubauer in net today and on the season he has been not good. He has posted a 3.49 GAA and a .886 save %. I think that SJ could be a bit of a sneaky play today as their are a lot of high profile offensive players today that could eat up most of the ownership. I think SJ has a good chance to produce on the PP today as they have clicked at almost a 30% clip over their last 7 games, in that same time period the Capitals PK is under 80%. With the potential of his low ownership, I really like Couture as a GPP play today.
Low Dollar Plays
W: Andrew Ladd – New York Islanders ($4300 FD)
With all the attention most likely going to on the top Islanders line today, I think the second Islander line can be had at nice ownership. Ladd makes a good play not just because of his ownership but because he has been playing really well. He has goals in 3 of his last 4 games and is playing on a line with Barzal and Eberle who have both been paying well. Like mentioned earlier the Islanders are the top scoring team in the league and not all that scoring is coming from the top line. I like Ladd in GPPs today but can also be used in cash as I think that the Islanders will be putting up some goals today.
W: Calle Jarnkrok – Nashville Predators ($3400 FD)
With the injury to Ryan Johansen, a few players on the Predators roster gets a bump up. One of those players is Calle Jarnkrok who gets the benefit of jumping on a line with Filip Forsberg and getting bumped to the top PP unit which features Forsberg, Arvidsson and Subban. Jarnkrok has points in two straight games and has a good opportunity to keep producing. This could be the lowest scoring game on the slate so Jarnkrok is a GPP play only for me. Since I have mentioned 4 wingers in this article, if you are looking for a low cost C, you could also play Nick Bonino as he gets to line up with Viktor Arvidsson during ES but does not get PP time for the Predators.
G: Jaroslav Halak – New York Islanders ($7400 FD)
The goalie position is quite the mess today as their are multiple games that have the potential to be high scoring ones. I am going to go with Halak today and even though this is one of the games that could be high scoring, I really like the way Halak has been playing lately. Over his last 3 games he has only given up 4 goals and has posted a .920 save % or better in each of them. Another thing going in his favour is that Florida is really struggling to score lately as they only have 13 goals over their last 6 games. This could definitely blow up in my face as the Islanders are not a very sound defensive team, however I am willing to take a flyer in the goaltending position today. That being said, Halak is a GPP only play for me today.
