The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Vladimir Tarasenko – St. Louis Blues ($8300 FD)
Tarasenko is playing on one of the hottest lines in hockey along side Jaden Schwartz and Brayden Schenn. Today the Blues are facing off against the New York Islanders who will be on a back to back and will have Greiss in net. On the year Tarasenko has 20 points in 17 games, and in his last 5 games he has 3 goals and 5 assists. Tarasenko has a really good matchup today, and is a nice player to build both your cash and GPP lines around.
D: Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks ($7000 FD)
Burns is coming into todays slate at only $7000 on FD which is one of the lowest prices he has had in a while. Burns has not nearly been as offensively effective as he has been in the last two season. On the year, Burns has 0 goals and 7 assists in 14 games which is a total that we are not accustomed to seeing from him. However, today he has a matchup that could get him going as he is facing off against the Vancouver Canucks. Over their last 5 games, the Canucks have the second worst PK with a percentage of 58.8%. I am gonna predict that Burns is going to get his first goal of the season today, however he is for me a GPP play only today.
Mid Dollar Plays
W: Clayton Keller – Arizona Coyotes ($6500 – FD)
Keller and the Arizona Coyotes face off against the Winnipeg Jets today who are on a back to back which means they will more than likely have Steve Mason in net. On the year Mason has a 4.44 GAA and a .877 Save %. On the year Keller has 17 points in 18 games and is leading the Coyotes in goals and points. Arizona’s offence has not been great overall, but I think they are in a good spot today and if Arizona is going to score than Keller will more than likely be part of the offence. I like him as a GPP play today.
C: Kyle Turris – Nashville Predators ($5000 FD)
Kyle Turris will finally get to suit up for his first game with his new team after the blockbuster trade that sent Duchene to Ottawa. Turris gets to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins today who will be on a back to back. The Penguins have really struggled on back to back games this year as they have given up 10, 5, 7, 7, and 2 goals against in the second half of their back to backs. Add in the revenge factor that the Predators will be showing after losing the Stanley Cup to these Penguins last season, and I can see a nice offensive outburst for the Preds. Turris will be on the second line and I think is going to give a nice first impression for his new home fans.
Low Dollar Plays
C: Nico Hischier – New Jersey Devils ($4800 FD)
Hischier and the Devils will be facing the Florida Panthers who will also be on a back to back. The Panthers are coming off a 3-1 win against the Sabres however will have a bit of a tougher matchup today against the Devils. Florida are still giving up the most goals per game in the league and I think that will come back fruition today. Nico on the year has 10 points in 15 games and is going to be suiting up on the top line with Hall and Palmieri. I like this Devils line to produce a couple of goals today and Hischier provides some nice cheap exposure to the line. I like him in GPPs today and would be okay with using him in cash games today.
W: Andreas Athanasiou – Detroit Red Wings ($3400 FD)
For my super under owned GPP play for the day I am going with Athanasiou. The Red Wing winger plays on the teams second line and top PP unit. Today the Red Wings will be facing off against the Columbus Blue Jackets who will be on a back to back and will most likely have Korpisalo in net today who has a 3.27 GAA and a .896 save %. Over their last 5 games the Blue Jackets have given up 18 goals and have struggled on the PK, and I think Detroit has a chance to put up some goals. Athanasiou at his price doesn’t have to do much and if he is able to get no the score sheet he will far exceed value.
G: Brian Elliot – Philadelphia Flyers ($7600 FD)
Brian Elliot has been a bit of a hit and miss goalie this year, but if you take away his two starts where he let in 6 goals a game he has actually been pretty good this year. Elliot has proved in the past that he is able to string together a lot of good games in a row and I think that he is currently in one of those stretches. Over his last 4 starts he has given up 2 or less goals in 3 of them, and that includes games against Chicago and Toronto. Today he gets to face off against the Minnesota Wild who don’t have the most potent offence in the league. Elliot and the Flyers are not a lock to win this game, however I think they have a good chance to come out on top. Elliot is a GPP play only today and will give you some nice salary relief from the goaltender position.
