The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Phil Kessel – Pittsburgh Penguins ($8200 FD)
Phil Kessel has been one of the hotter players in the NHL over the last little while. In his last 6 games Kessel has 9 points (3G, 6A) and has been put back with Malkin on the Penguins 2nd line. In today’s matchup Kessel and the Penguins are facing off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have been struggling on the year as they have given up the 4th most goals per game and lately their PK has been struggling. Combine that with the top 5 PP% of the Penguins and Kessel is looking at great chance of success. Kessel is good for both GPP and Cash contests today
C: Mark Scheifele – Winnipeg Jets ($8300 FD)
Scheifele and the Winnipeg Jets are at home today to face off against the Arizona Coyotes. Mark Scheifele has been one of the hottest players in the league in November as he has 6 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games. The Winnipeg Jets have the leagues 6th best PP and over their last 5 games have been clicking at 47.0%. Their opponent on the other hand have the 5th worst PK in the league and I think the Jets are going to be able to take full advantage. I think stacking the 1-2 punch of Scheifele and Wheeler could be a good play today.
Mid Dollar Plays
C: Vincent Trocheck – Florida Panthers ($6100 FD)
Prior to his last game, Trocheck had scored in 4 straight games and has a good chance to start a new streak today against the Dallas Stars. Dallas is coming off a 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and today will most likely be having Kari Lehtonen in net. On the year Lehtonen has actually been decent, however historically he has not been and I think Florida is going to score some goals today. Florida has been involved in a lot of high scoring games, especially at home, and this game against Dallas could be a potential game to stack. I like Trocheck in GPPs contests today.
W: Tyler Toffoli – Los Angelas Kings ($5600 FD)
The Kings second line of Pearson – Kempe – Toffoli has been the teams hottest line of late and today get a nice matchup against the Vancouver Canucks. Over their last 6 games the Canucks have given up 19 goals and have really been struggling on the PK. Over his career, Toffoli has always played well against the Canucks to the point where he has scored more goals against them than any other team. On the year Toffoli has 13 points in 17 games and is tied for team lead in goals. I like Toffoli as both a GPP and cash game play today.
Low Dollar Plays
D: Ivan Provorov – Philadelphia Flyers ($4200 FD)
Provorov and the Flyers face off against the Minnesota Wild today. The Wild over their last 6 games have been pretty decent in preventing goals as they have given up about 2.5 goals per game. Although it may be tough for Provorov to get on the score sheet he has been excelling in his peripheral stats where he has at least 5 combined shots/blocks in 6 of his last 8 games. At his price Provorov provides a great floor, and if he is able to find the score sheet it is a great bonus. I like him more as a cash game play but can be used in GPP as well.
D: Brad Hunt – Vegas Golden Knights ($3500 FD)
All season I have been sceptical that the Golden Knights are not as good as they seem, however I think its time to accept the fact that they are not as bad as I think they are. Vegas today will be facing the Edmonton Oilers who are not having the season that everyone thought they would. Hunt plays on the second powerplay unit for the Golden Knights and is facing off against the leagues worst Penalty Kill. Hunt is a GPP play only, but at his cost if he gets a single point he will far exceed value.
G: Jonathan Quick – Los Angeles Kings ($9100 FD)
Even though the Kings have not been the best defensive team over the last little while, this play is more about his opponent the Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks started out pretty hot, but they are starting to come back to Earth and are struggling to score again. On the year the Quick has a .933 save % and a 2.27 GAA. I think the Kings will win this game and I think Quick doesn’t allow more than 2 goals. I like Quick in both GPP and Cash games today.
