The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
C: Alexsander Barkov – Florida Panthers ($7100 FD)
The Florida Panthers are at home today to face off against the Calgary Flames who will be on the second half of a back to back. Yesterday, The Flames hurt a lot of DFS players as they shut down the Lightning at home with a 5-1 win. The Flames are starting to defend really well which is what was expected when they boosted their defence. That being said, the top line of the Panthers have been really good of late. Barkov in his last 4 games has 3 goals and 4 assist and if we go back 7 games Barkov has atleast 6 shots on net in 5 of those 7 games. With Calgary starting Rittich and being on a back to back, I think Barkov makes for a great play today. I will be using him in GPPs mostly, but I think you can use him in cash as well since he has been raising his floor over the last little while.
C: Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers ($9000 FD)
McDavid and the Oilers get a nice road matchup today against the Arizona Coyotes. McDavid will most likely be on the highest owned players today and its for good reason. Arizona gives up the third most goals per game while playing at home and McDavid has actually produced better on the road this year as opposed to when on home ice. He has been reunited with Draisaitl on his wing which gives a boost to both players. Another reason I am going with McDavid over some of the other top end guys tonight is he has been shooting the puck a lot. He has 21 shots in his last 4 games plus he broke out of his 7 game scoring slump last game with a goal. I think McDavid is ready to go on a tear and I see a nice game from him today.
Mid Dollar Plays
W: Sebastian Aho – Carolina Hurricanes ($6700 FD)
Aho recently has been a scoring machine as he has 8 goals in his last 9 games. He has been shooting the puck a ton which includes 7 shots in his last game against the same Capitals that he will be facing today. Carolina won the first game of this home and home 3-1 and I think are in a good spot today as Washington struggles more on the road as opposed to home. While on the road, Washington gives up the 4th most goals against in the league and will have backup Grubauer in net today and this puts Carolina in a real nice spot. I like Aho in both GPP and Cash games today.
D: Seth Jones – Columbus Blue Jackets ($5500 FD)
Seth Jones and the Jackets are at home today to face off against the Vancouver Canucks. Jones has been one of the better defensemen in the league as of late and is in a good spot to continue his hot play. He started his hot streak after Werenski went down with injury, but even with Werenski back Jones has not missed a beat. He is on a 3 game point streak and has points in 10 of his last 12 games. He has been named to his first all star game and I think he is going to play like an all-star against a team that is generally generous to defencemen in terms of fantasy production. I will be using him in both Cash and GPP.
Low Dollar Plays
W: Jeff Panik – Arizona Coyotes ($3400 FD)
The newly acquired Jeff Panik started to fall out of favour in Chicago but gets a fresh start with the Coyotes. Panic will be inserted into the top line for the Coyotes playing alongside Stepan and Perlini and he will also see time on the second PP unit. The Coyotes are playing against the Edmonton Oilers today and they have been not good in recent games in terms of allowing goals. They have given up close to 4 goals a game in their last 7 and its a nice spot for Panik to make his Coyotes debut. This is definitely a GPP play only but he gives you some real nice salary relief.
W: Mathieu Perreault – Winnipeg Jets ($4500 FD)
While everyone will most likely be flocking to the top Jets line today (and don’t blame them as they have been hot) I will be playing the second line for the Jets. The top line has a pretty tough matchup today as they will likely be facing off against Toews who is one of the better defensive Centres in the league. This will give the second Jets line with a nice match up and Perreault has been playing well with 4 points in his last 2 games. Chicago will be starting Glass in net today who has given up atleast 3 goals in his first 4 games this year. I will be using Perreault in GPP games only today.
G: Sergei Bobrovsky / Joonas Korpisalo – Columbus Blue Jackets
As of this writing the goalie for the Jackets is not confirmed, but that being said I am not a fan of goaltending in general today and will be playing it safe and will be playing whoever is starting for the Jackets. The Jackets are on a back to back but are at home and are one of the stingier home teams in the league. Their opponent today is the Vancouver Canucks who are scoring less than 2 goals a game in their last 5 games. Both Bobrovksy and Korpisalo have much better home splits in goal and I will not be messing around and will take the safe route in goal today.
