First a little intro about me, my name is Kassim Kamani (@Kamani31) and I live in Vancouver Canada (Go Canucks!!). I have been watching hockey since I can remember and have been playing DFS for about 2 years now.
The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by myself and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftking plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
C: John Tavares – New York Islanders ($8500 FD)
In such a small slate, its going to be hard to avoid Tavares today. In his last 5 games he has 9 goals and 2 assists and is taking a boat load of shots. Today he is facing off against the Colorado Avalanche who away from home and are on a back to back. The are tied with the Islanders in giving up the 10th most goals per game. Tavares is going to be very highly owned today, but I am okay with that. You can use him in all formats today.
W: Taylor Hall – New Jersey Devils ($7700 FD)
Hall and the Devils will be facing the Calgary Flames today who will be without one of their top 4 d-men in Travis Hamonic. Hall has been playing really good hockey as of late, where he has registered a point in 4 straight games and in 6 of 7. Of those 6 games, 3 of them have been multi point games. Calgary has actually been a worse home team than road team this year, and I think that New Jersey will be able to score a few. If they do, more likely than not Hall will be apart of the action. I like him in all formats today too, but think he makes for a better GPP play today.
Mid Dollar Plays
C: Nathan Mackinnon – Colorado Avalanche ($5500 FD)
Speaking of hot streaks, Mackinnon has been on a nice streak in his last 3 games where he has 2 goals and 5 assists. Him and his line mates have been playing really well and have a good matchup today against the Islanders. Even though Colorado are on a back to back I still think that they will be able to put up a few goals today. The Islanders give up the 10th most goals per game and this one could be a high scoring one. This could be a good opportunity to do a game stack as it should be a high scoring affair.
D: Shea Weber – Montreal Canadiens ($5400 FD)
The theme of this article is apparently hot streaks cause Weber is another player who is on one. His his last 6 games, Weber has 2 goals and 7 assists and he also starting to take a lot of shots. Montreal have started to score and I think they have a good chance to do so again today. Montreal is facing Chicago today and both teams are on a back to back. As of this writing, Chicago has not announced their goalie but it will most likely be Forsberg in net for them and he is a big downgrade from Crawford. I like Weber today as a cash game play, but can also be used in GPP.
Low Dollar Plays
W: Josh Bailey – New York Islanders ($4600 FD)
The hot streak theme continues as Bailey has been playing really well since he has moved up with John Tavares on the first line. Last year these two played really well together so its nice to see them on the same line again. Bailey is on a 8 game points streak where he has 2 goals and 12 assists. Those are some real good numbers for a player that is below $5000. Since his cost is so low expect extremely high ownership today, however in such a small slate it is okay to eat some chalk. The one downside with Bailey is he hasn’t been taking much shots, so incase he doesn’t register a point he doesn’t have a safe enough floor. For me he is a GPP play, however because I think the Islanders are going to score a few goals, I think he is usable in cash.
W: Kris Versteeg – Calgary Flames ($3300 FD)
This bucks the trend of hot streak players however I think that Versteeg is going to break out of his slump today. What makes Versteeg valuable is that he plays on Calgary’s top PP unit and today they are facing off against the Devils who will have Kinkaid in net and sport a bottom 10 PK%. Versteeg is obviously a GPP play only today, and if he is even able to get an assist on the PP today he will more than exceed value.
G: Mike Smith – Calgary Flames ($8400 FD)
Its not the greatest day to pick a goalie today as we have a game that is potentially going to be high scoring and another game that has 2 backups playing. Today I will be going with Mike Smith and it might be a day where I will be playing a player against my goalie. Calgary is the second biggest favourite today according to Vegas and I think will be involved in a lower scoring game than the biggest favourite is involved in. I will be using Smith in both formats today however will probably be using a player against him as well in those lines.
