The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
W: Alex Ovechkin – Washington Capitals ($8800 FD)
Ovechkin and the Capitals face off against the Arizona Coyotes today. Ovechkin has slowed down his scoring since his torrid start to the season however he did score last game and I think he is going to get atleast one goal today too. The Coyotes on the season have given up the 2nd most goals per game and have the 7th worst PK in the league. I like Ovechkin and the Capitals to get their PP going today as they have been struggling as of late. Ovechkin is still taking a bunch of shots so he is good for both cash and GPP today.
W: Patrick Laine – Winnipeg Jets ($7400 FD)
Laine so far on the year has been a little disappointing but he has started to turn things around. He has scored in 2 straight games and in those games has a combined 12 shots. Today he is up against the Dallas Stars who have actually been pretty decent defensively this year. Most of Dallas defensive attention will be put forth on the hot combo of Scheifele and Wheeler, and I think that Laine and his line will be able to take advantage of what is thrown his way. Winnipeg’s PP has also been clicking so I think Laine is going to produce today. I like him more as a GPP play today.
Mid Dollar Plays
D: John Klingberg – Dallas Stars ($6200 FD)
Klingberg and the Stars over their last 5 games have been producing at a 50% PP clip. They have the best PP in the league and a lot of that has to do with Klingberg as he quarterbacks the PP. On the season Klingberg has the 14 points in 14 games and he contributes well in the peripheral stats as well. Winnipeg has become a better defensive team especially since Hellebuyck has taken over the #1 goalie role, but I think this game has a sneaky chance of being high scoring. Dallas is a better scoring team at home, and I think it will open the game up a bit compared to the game that these teams played last week. Klingberg can be used in cash or GPP.
C: Nazem Kadri – Toronto Maple Leafs ($5800 FD)
Kadri has been in a bit of a slump where he hasn’t gotten a point in 4 straight games. However, nothing is a better cure than the Vegas Golden Knights and their 4th string goalie coming into town. Over their last 5 games, Vegas has given up 4 goals a game, have a bottom 10 PK and are on their 5th consecutive road game. I think this is a very good spot for the Leafs and expect this game to be fairly high scoring. I like Kadri to break out of his slump as he skates on the top PP unit for the Leafs. Kadri makes for a nice GPP play today.
Low Dollar Plays
W: Erik Haula – Vegas Golden Knights ($4000 FD)
Haula plays on a line with James Neal and David Perron and today they are facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have really struggled keeping the puck out of their net as in the last 5 games they have been giving up more than 4 goals a game and have the 5th worst PK in that span. I think this game has the potential to be one of the highest scoring of the day and I think Haula and his line has potential to score a couple today. Haula is cheap and think can be had at decent ownership tonight. He is a better GPP play today, but I can potentially see him as a cash game player for salary relief.
D: Derrick Pouliot – Vancouver Canucks ($3500 FD)
Pouliot has been playing a pretty steady game since his addition to the Canucks. He only has 3 assists on the year but I think he has some value as he is playing on the second powerplay unit with Vancouver’s hottest players. Going up against Detroit I expect him to get some more minutes today as last game the Canucks had to be a bit stricter with line matching due to Crosby and Malkin. Pouliot is very cheap so it won’t take much for him to reach value. That being said, he is strictly a GPP play today.
G: Devin Dubnyk – Minnesota Wild ($8700 FD)
Minnesota travels to Boston today to face off against the Bruins. Both teams have been pretty strong recently defensively so I expect this to be a low scoring game. Boston is really hurting upfront as they will be without Krejci, Marchand, Backes and Spooner. Dubnyk is in a real good spot today and should be in a nice spot for a win. The one issue here is that due to all the injuries that Boston has, they might struggle to generate shots. Nonetheless, I like Dubnyk today more as a cash game play than a GPP play.
