The Triple Deke will be a daily piece written by @Kamani31 and my co-writer Jonathan Scharf (@McKinley_412) on an alternating basis. Each day we will give you two of our favourite (yes that’s how you spell it in Canada) plays in 3 different pricing tiers, High, Medium, and Low as well as a goalie play. For the season opener, we will be bringing you two articles, Jonathan will be looking after the Draftkings plays and I will be looking at the Fanduel plays. Hopefully throughout the year we can help you guys win some money. So without further ado, let’s get the Triple Deke started.
High Dollar Plays
C: Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers ($9200 FD)
McDavid and the Oilers travel to Calgary today to face off against the Flames. Throughout his young career, McDavid has feasted against the Flames and that includes his one meeting with them this year where he had a hat trick. The Oilers struggles this year are well documented but that does not mean that McDavid is still not producing. He has 31 points in 26 games, and I think due to his price and the other high end centres playing today you will be able to get him at decent ownership today. I will be using him in both Cash and GPP today.
W: Jamie Benn – Dallas Stars ($7300 FD)
Jamie Benn is mired in a slump right now as he has gone pointless in 5 games. That being said, Benn has a good opportunity to break out of the slump tonight as he gets to face off against the Chicago Blackhawks at home. The Blackhawks are going to be without Crawford as he was put on the IR and will be going with Anton Forsberg as their lead goalie now. He has a 3.67 GAA and a .905 save % which are not good numbers. Combine that with the fact that Dallas is a much better home team and Benn himself produces more at home and I think a slump busting game is in the cards. Due to his recent struggles however, Benn is a GPP play only today.
Mid Dollar Plays
W: Max Pacioretty – Montreal Canadiens ($6500 FD)
The Canadiens somehow after their terrible start to the season find themselves in a playoff spot after winning 4 straight games. Carey Price is back and looks to be healthy and the season could finally be turning around for the Habs. This streak is also coinciding with some better play from Patches as he is riding a 3 game point streak. Pacioretty is not having the type of season we are accustomed to seeing from him as he only has 16 points in 27 games, however he still has the ability to have a big game. I think today is going to be one of those days as the Canadiens are facing off against Mrazek and the Red Wings. The Red Wings are not as defensively sound as they have been at the start of the season, and I think the Canadiens are going to be scoring some goals today. I like Pacioretty in both GPP and cash games today.
C: Vincent Trochek – Florida Panthers ($5800 FD)
Trochek and the Panthers are on the road today against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have been struggling lately in keeping the puck out of their net as they have given up 21 goals in their last 5 games. Trochek plays on the Panthers second line and jumps up to the top PP unit. He has been shooting the puck a lot lately and only has 2 goals to show for it over his last 6 games. I think this game has the potential to be a high scoring one which puts Trochek in a really nice spot. I will be using him in GPP lines, however a case can be made to fire him up in Cash contests also.
Low Dollar Plays
D: Jake Gardiner – Toronto Maple Leafs ($3800FD)
Gardiner and the leafs are on the road today against the Vancouver Canucks. The leafs have been playing really well lately, and for whatever reason the Canucks have really struggled on home ice. Adding to the appeal is that the Canucks have given up the 4th most goals to opposing D men on the season and I think with the fire power that the Leafs have up front, it will give some extra space for the D men to jump for the Leafs. Gardiner plays on the second pp unit for the Leafs where he gets to share the ice with Matthews and perineal Canuck killer Marleau. I like Gardiner in GPP contests today.
W: Craig Smith – Nashville Predators ($4300 FD)
The Predators are at home today against the Anaheim Ducks who have been ravaged with injuries and not been very good on the year. Nashville on the other hand have been playing some good hockey, and are one of the best home teams in the league. Smith had a goal and an assist his last time out and has totalled 11 shots on goal in his last 2 games. It appears that Smith is riding a confident streak right now and I like his spot today against the Ducks. I will be using Smith in GPPs today, however he can be used in Cash contests as he is shooting the puck a lot and gives some nice salary relief.
G: Ben Bishop – Dallas Stars ($8500 FD)
Ben Bishop is like a Jekyll and Hyde goaltender when it comes to his home and road splits. On the road this year he has a 3.55 GAA and a .885 save % compared to his home stats where he has a 1.61 GAA and a .942 save %. His matchup today is not the easiest as he facing off against the Blackhawks, however his stats can’t be ignored. I will be using Bishop in GPPs today and because he is facing off against the Blackhawks I think you will be able to get him at low ownership today.
