The 145th Open Championship will be played at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. It is the 3rd major in the 2016 season and was last played here in 2004. It is the 9th time that Royal Troon will host the Open Championship. The last 6 winners at Royal Troon have all been Americans.
Course history is not an angle to look at this week but absolutely keep a steady eye on the weather. As of writing this, Thursday is supposed to be the only day with sunshine. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all expected to be heavy chances of rain with strong winds. A typical weather forecast for an Open Championship.
Royal Troon is a par 71 course measuring out to 7,190 yards with the front 9 being par 36 and the back 9 being par 35. The best chance for golfers to score will be holes 1-6. Playing down wind with 2 par 5’s and 3 short par 4’s in these opening 6 holes, you will see a lot of birdies and eagles happen here. After these 6 holes, the course will take over and golfers will be looking to survive.
Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger, Stewart Cink and Jaco Van Zyl have all WD so make sure to keep them out of your LU’s.
