Today we’re going to try and dig into this Slate and figure out which players top the charts in our “Dong Detector”. Our goal is to help you find HR hitters.
As we all know, everyone loves the long ball and in the DFS world, especially on Social Media, the MLB Long Ball is King. The HR is the key In DFS and having the player or two with a HR or two (aka Double Dong) can lead to winning lots of $$$.
Andrew McCutchen (PIT) OF
In 23 PAs against Jimmy Nelson, McCutchen has 1 DONG and .333 BAA.
Justin Smoak (TOR) 1B
The BVP folks will shy away from this play and that’s great for you in a small slate. In his career, Smoak is 2-13 with 4Ks against RHP Doug Fister. That was the old Smoak before his breakout. Over the last 15 days, Smoak has a 51% hard-hit%, a batted ball distance of 266 ft. with an aEV of 97MPH!
Jackie Bradley Jr (BOS) OF
One of the Boston’s top bats against LHP this season has been is Jackie Bradley Jr (JBJ). In 72PAs, JBJ has a .234 ISO and a .421 wOBA against LHP. He as .191 ISO over the last 14 days and his batted ball distance is up 11ft and hard-hit% up 11% too. Amazingly, JBJ has never faced LHP Francisco Liriano.
Eugenio Suarez (CIN) 3B
With a .211 at home v LHP, Suarez pops up on the Dong Detector batting 2nd in the Reds lineup this afternoon. This season, LHP Patrick Corbin has allowed 1.56HR/9 to RHHs. Game temps are going to be in the 90s which will only upgrade this hitter-friendly ballpark.
Paul DeJong (STL) 2B/SS
With an increase distance of 27ft, hard hit% of 44% and aEV of 94MPH, Paul DeJong has been on a heater the last 15 days. During that timeframe, he’s had a .500 ISO and 4 DONGS. Lugo is a great groundball pitcher but has allowed 1.74hr/9 to RHHs.
Jonathan Lucroy (TEX) C
In 15 PAs, Jonathan Lucroy has 3 DONGs and a .385 BA against LHP Wade Miley.
With a .340 ISO this season, Nick Castellanos get another LHP tonight in a 99 degree game time temperature and winds blowing out to left field at 9 MPH. He still has a 43% hard hit rate over the 15 days and a 95 MPH exit velocity. His batted ball distance is up 17ft over that timeframe resulting in 4 DONGs. Also, Castellanos has had some success against Duffy with a .333 BA and 1 DONG.
Nelson Cruz (SEA) OF
Nelson Cruz has been a tear over the last month and tonight against RHP Luis Severino, I expect it to continue. Over the last month, Cruz has a 50% hard-hit%, xwOBA of .538 and a .391 ISO. This season v RHP, he has a .255 ISO and 16 DONGs. Severino is allowing .307 wOBA and 0.83HR/9 to RHHs.
Mike Napoli (TEX) 1B
In a small slate, you might want to pivot off the high priced/chalky first basemen to Mike Napoli. It goes without saying that the play is GPP only and Napoli has a risk/reward profile that could easily result in a DONG or a big fat ZERO. So things to look at is that fact that Napoli, Batted Ball Distance is 267ft over the last 15 days with a 52% hard hit rate during that time frame. He is facing LHP Wade Miley who is allowing a .385wOBA and 32% hard hit rate to RHHs.
Day Early Dong
Mark Trumbo (BAL) OF
Career against LHP Cole Hamels, Mark Trumbo has 2 DONGs, 18 BBE and an average exit velocity of 96.5 MPH in only 18 PAs. Meaning when he hits it, it’s flying! If you played him last night, go back to the well. Game time temperature will be 93 degrees with winds blowing dead center at 7 MPH.
