As we all know, everyone loves the long ball and in the DFS world, especially on Social Media, the MLB Long Ball is King. The HR is the key In DFS and having the player or two with a HR or two (aka Double Dong) can lead to winning lots of $$$.
Today we’re going to try and dig into this HUGE Slate and figure out which players top the charts in our “Dong Detector”. Our goal is to help you find HR hitters. Let’s go!
FB% for the projected starting pitchers:
Fly ball percentage refers to the percentage of balls in play that are fly balls. A pitcher with a low fly ball percentage will normally be more successful than one with a higher percentage, since home runs are typically hit on fly balls. SIMPLE, RIGHT????
Chase Utley (LAD) 2B
Expected to leadoff, Utley has the best BVP against Bartolo Colon, he owns a .478 BAA with 1 DONG in 23 PAs.
Yasmani Grandal (LAD) C
Team BVP will be all over Salvador Perez with his matchup against Justin Verlander. That’s good for us! Since you are reading this, you are going to lock in Dodger’s catcher Yasmani Grandal. Grandal has been on fire since the All-Star break batting in the cleanup slot for this potent offense. During that timeframe, against RHPs, he has a .600 ISO, .545 xwOBA with 2 DONGs.
Mike Zunino (SEA) C
E-Rod takes the mound tonight and I love the play of Mike Zunino. E-Rod has a 47% Fly ball rate and 1.46HR/9 against RHHs this season. Zunino has a .264 ISO and a .349 wOBA against LHP. Zunino is a risk/reward and with a ton of catchers in a great spot, he’s going to be less than 3% owned.
Cody Bellinger (LAD) 1B
Since the All-Star break, Bellinger has a .600 ISO, a .755 wOBA and an average exit velocity of 96.6 against RHPs. On the season, he has a .371 ISO and smashes sliders better that nearly 2x the MLB average. Colon only has two pitches, the 87 MPH meatball and a Slider. Some time you have to run with the pack to win and find those one-offs, tonight CHALKY DONGS are on the menu. Lock it and move on.
Mike Napoli (TEX) 1B
Another Lefty smasher tonight is Mike Napoli. For some reason, he’s price has dropped on DFS sites! Over the span of 15 days, Napoli has a hard-hit% of 52%, an average exit velocity of 97MPH and a batted ball distance of 277ft! He has a .381 against LHP. LHP Adam Conley has a 41% FLYBALL RATE and a 37% hard contact rate against RHHs. Temps will be 92 degrees at game time!
Jonathan Schoop (BAL) 2B
Over the last 15 days against LHP, Jonathan Schoop has been the top bat for the O’s. During that time frame, Schoop has a .500 ISO with an average exit velocity of 98MPH. Schoop also has a 7ft batted ball distance and hard-hit% in the 15 days. Blake Snell is allowing a 48% fly ball rate to RHHs.
Wilmer Flores (NYM) 3B
My favorite all time Lefty masher, Wilmer Flore v LHP Day is upon us again. Last game, he DONGed and tonight, he gets to faces LHP Clayton Richard. Flores has taken Richard deep once in his career. Richard has allowed a 36% hard contact rate to RHHs and 1.61HR/9.
Corey Seager (LAD) SS
Like I mentioned before, Bartolo Colon is on the mound against the Dodgers and let’s just say I am putting my eggs in one basket tonight. Batting in the 2 hole, Seager has seen his batted ball distance increase to 253ft with and exit velocity of 95 MPH. He has a massive 57% hard-hit rate over the last 15 days.
Tommy Pham (STL) OF
Did you know that Tommy Pham has been diagnosed with keratoconus? What’s keratoconus? Well, Keratoconus causes structural abnormalities in the cornea, warping it and leaving it similar to the shape of a football’s tip. Instead of light bending toward the retina to be processed as an image, the light scatters, splinters. Halos or double images can appear. Pham legally blind in his left eye due to keratoconus! Crazy huh! Yet over the last two weeks, Pham is has a .500 ISO against RHP and a 99.9 aEV! Tonight’s game time temperatures will shrink Busch Stadium and increase Pham’s dong potential.
DAY EARLY DONG
Zack Cozart (CIN) SS
Cozart has seen his batted ball distance improve over the last 15 days plus his hard-hit% is up 7% and his exit velocity up 5 MPH. Tonight, he faces RHP Josh Tomlin who has a 1.78HR/9 with a 37% fly ball rate against RHHs. Excellent candidate for a DAY EARLY DONG!
