As we all know, everyone loves the long ball and in the DFS world, especially on Social Media, the MLB Long Ball is King. The HR is the key In DFS and having the player or two with a HR or two (aka Double Dong) can lead to winning lots of $$$.
Today we’re going to try and dig into this HUGE Slate and figure out which players top the charts in our “Dong Detector”. Our goal is to help you find HR hitters. Let’s go!
FB% for the projected starting pitchers:
Fly ball percentage refers to the percentage of balls in play that are fly balls. A pitcher with a low fly ball percentage will normally be more successful than one with a higher percentage, since home runs are typically hit on fly balls. SIMPLE, RIGHT????
Mitch Moreland (BOS) 1B
Over the past 14 days, Mitch Moreland has had a 37.5% hard-hit% and faces a RHP who is allowing the hard contact rate of 35% and a fly ball rate of 54% on the EARLY slate! Also, Moreland’s batted ball distance is up from 225ft to 246ft over the last 15 days. RHP Andrew Moore is allowing a 2.87HR/9 and his Opp. batted ball distance is 247ft over his last 2 starts. The Boston bats have been cold, but Moreland should be able to homer. Bonus: he is dirt cheap on FanDuel.
Tyler Flowers (ATL) C
IF starting, Tyler Flowers has a nice matchup against LHP Patrick Corbin. Flowers has a 52% hard-hit% and .170 ISO over the last 15days. Corbin is allowing a .208 ISO and .372 wOBA to RHHs. He also has allow 13 DONGs to RHHs all season.
Didi Gregorius (NYY) SS
Didi Gregorius has been on a tear the last 14 days. He has a .378 ISO during the timeframe. This afternoon, he faces RHP Homer Bailey. Homer Bailey is allowing 1.98HR/9. The Yankees team Vegas implied is 5.1 and should be very popular on a short slate. Tag him up with Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge if they fit with Sale.
Matt Holiday (NYY) OF
Career wise, Matt Holiday has 2 DONGs and .326 BAA in 43PAs and 104.5 aEV against RHP Homer Bailey.
DAY EARLY DONG
Jake Lamb (ARI) 3B
Jake Lamb was in a prime spot last night against RHP Mike Foltynewicz and let us down. This afternoon, he returns to the DONG Detector to face RHP Aaron Blair. Blair is making his season debut. In 2016, Blair allowed 1.95HR/9 to LHHs. Lamb has a .300 ISO v RHP this season. Blair threw the Slider 34% of pitches last season and Lamb is one of the best bats against the pitch type.
